Evaluation, Testing, Diagnosis
Glaucoma can usually be detected during a routine eye exam. Just a simple pressure screening at a local health fair is not adequate. Early detection by examination of the anatomy of the eye and of the appearance of the optic nerve and treatment of glaucoma can help to preserve vision, but there is no cure for the disease. Any vision loss from glaucoma cannot be restored.
During your glaucoma evaluation, Dr. Johnson will perform tonometry to measure your intraocular pressure, will examine your optic nerve by ophthalmoscopy, view your drainage meshwork area with gonioscopy, measure the thickness of your retinal nerve fiber layer with Ocular Coherence Tomography and may test the peripheral vision of each eye by visual field testing.
If you are experiencing vision changes, please call 949-760-9007 or schedule an eye exam with California Eye Associates in Newport Beach today. Early detection of glaucoma is vital to the health of your eyesight.
