Routine and Screening Examinations
Many people tend to put vision care on the back-burner…until a problem arises. Unfortunately, when you wait too long to have your vision checked, you can incur permanent, irreversible damage to your eyesight. Many conditions are treatable if diagnosed early. Eye exams can even detect underlying health conditions, such as hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, diabetes and more. Dr. Johnson is particularly attuned to underlying health conditions because he began his residency training in internal medicine before changing to ophthalmology.
Adults over age 40 should have eye exams every 2-4 years; adults over age 65 should have eye exams every 1-2 years. If you have a history of eye disease or vision problems, you might need more frequent visits. If you are diabetic, you should have your eyes examined every year.
